Them Evils - Culture Room

If you’re itchin’ for a heapin’ helpin’ of good ‘ol fashioned rock ’n’ roll, al-la raw guitar licks the likes of AC/DC (with an updated style) look no further than Them Evils. A power trio born among the seedy LA rock scene, Jordan (lead vocals and guitar), Jake (bass) and David (drums), are steeped in the lineage of pure, unadulterated rock.

A hint of the Australian trio Jet, a pinch of the aforementioned AC/DC and a sprinkle of Buckcherry, mixed with loads of attitude and classic thematic elements pervasive in American rock can be found in songs like “Put Your Love On Me” and “You Got Me Rockin’”.

But, make no mistake, Them Evils is making their own way. After supporting The Pretty Reckless and Alter Bridge on their latest tours, That Just Happened took in a show the middle of October down in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. Check out our interview with the band HERE.

Inside the intimate venue that is Culture Room, Them Evils took the stage ahead of the main act, Zakk Sabbath, who they have been supporting on their North American tour. Their mission and mind set was clear from the first thump of the bass drum denoting the opening riff of their biggest hit to date, “Untold”. That mission: to stake their claim on the rock ’n’ roll landscape as a force to be be considered. Leading with their breakout hit is bold and put the audience on notice that Them Evils was in the house!

And think about it…you gotta have some serious balls to take on the responsibilities night after night, city after city, priming the pump for Zakk Wylde, arguably one of the greatest modern day guitarists of the metal genre. They didn’t shirk their station and came out swinging, keeping a furious pace for the entire set. Jumping right into “Put Your Love On Me” followed by “Bleed”, a riff rife rocker sure to blow your hair back, the leather clad audience were soon nodding their long haired heads to the rambunctious ruckus. And with a little taste of “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll)” courtesy AC/DC, it seemed an audio diary entry by the scrappy trio adopting the lyrics of life on the road in a rock band. Additional cover “Ace of Spades” by the late, great Lemmy and Motorhead was an appreciated setlist inclusion.

To bookend their time on stage, punctuated by “Have One on Me”, the boys thanked the crowd for their enthusiasm which was met with a roar and plenty of rock horn salutes.
